My PhD studies focused on the stability of soil organic matter under climate change, especially under drought. I decided to quit after almost two semesters, as I  onged for more stability and certainty that academia couldn't afford. However, I still gained valuable skills and expertise: I was involved in writing two grant proposals (from which I led one), I improved my skills in academic writing, text comprehension, and statistics, as well as I learnt some lab methods, such as density fractionation. For the biggest part of the first year, I participated in the development of a mechanistic soil model called POTPRIM. This model simulates soil organic carbon dynamics focusing on the priming effect – under various temperatures, representing climate change, and with various qualities of litter input. My main tasks were to improve Bayesian calibration and I introduced validation of the model. POTPRIM is written in Python.

Czech Environmental Partnership Foundation is a non-profit environmental organisation. I worked in the Living Soil project, which aims to stop the massive degradation of arable soils in the Czech Republic.
I started by consulting landowners in what state their land is and what they should want from the farmers to improve the soil health. Soon after, my main tasks switched to a more "support" role – I analysed the data on consultations, and I advocated for the automatisation of data flow (from forms where landowners contacted us, through Google Spreadsheets, to Salesforce). For consultations with policy-makers ("kraje", "ORP", municipalities), I developed a simple internal static web app which contains a map of the Czech Republic with various levels of self-governing units. This map was useful for showing the process, including deadlines, state, or a contact person. I used JavaScript + Leaflet for the map part, and a form allowing updates in the map was written in PHP.
Additionally, we founded Platform for Regenerative Agriculture, for which created and maintained the website in Wix.

FameLab is an international contest in communicating science. I won the 2nd prize with my 3-minute stand-up about microplastics in soils, plants, and their impact on human health.

I won the contest for The Best Student Scientific Work Award with my Bachelor thesis about microplastics in the Outer Hebrides. For my thesis, I sampled almost 13 kg of soil on one island of Outer Hebrides (Scotland), analysed it for the quantity of artificial microfibres, and then modeled their distribution on the whole archipelago. To achieve this, I used Boosted Regression Trees, a machine learning algorithm, in R. It inputs mostly raster layers such as data on terrain, land cover, or wind.

I was part of REmoteCULT team, that won the Copernicus Hackathon. We introduced an idea to use remote sensing to monitor the recultivation of closed mine areas, and we prepared a proof-of-concept app that allowed that.

I enrolled in this course to enhance my data science / statistics skills as well Python itself. We went through the following topics (in both theoretical and practical way): exploratory data analysis, visualization, hypothesis testing, linear regression, panel data analysis, classification, time series analysis, recommendation systems, and unsupervised learning.

A week course covered topics such as academic writing, lecturing skills, grant system and grant proposal writing, ethics in science, and rhetorics.

As a national finalist, I attended a weekend FameLab MasterClass in science communication. It covered topics such as storytelling, talking to media, and presenting.

A year course covering communication and sound, photography, graphics and social networks, film, and moderating.

During the stay in Vienna at the Department of Geology, I was preparing soil samples for microplastics analysis using enzymatic digestion method, and working with FT-IR spectrometer Bruker Lumos II.

I spent one semester abroad at the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia. I attended the following courses: Geography of Slovenia, Physical Geography of Karst, Geoinformatical Support to Decision-Making, and Environmental Geography.

At the Masaryk University, the programme boards consists of both professors and students. I've been a student member for a Master's degree programme "Physical Geography".

I reached out to Municipal Library of Prague to organize and lead a Silent Book Club, which is a reading event where readers come and read quietly for an hour, followed by a vivid discussion on books in general. Currently, we are discussing leading other events as well.

For a couple of weeks, I worked at this small family-run organic farm, where I tried different things, from feeding the animals, collecting eggs, and helping with the sheep, to gardening.

I participated in two work parties in which we maintained the sand and stone road up to the hill, created a  new road in ferns, built up a dry stone wall, built a new stone road, and cleaned up two beaches from plastics.

I volunteered for children and youth mainly when I was in high school. I co-led a few summer camps for gifted children and youth within the Mensa Czech Republic. I also participated in Salesian Youth Centre, where I led a free-time media group "Reporters", focusing mainly on writing, and I was a part of the "free club", which is an open space for children and youth meant for their safe meeting, and, for example, playing sports, board games, chatting.

My tasks as an editor-in-chief were, beside writing articles, organising the contributors, editing and proofreading the articles, and the web administration. The magazine won 3rd place at a regional competition "School Magazine of the Year".
